Challenges Met, Promises fulfilled!
St. Joseph Foundation announced the conclusion of "The Promise Campaign," a multi-year capital campaign effort designed to generate support for the healing ministry of St. Joseph Health System (SJHS) on April 24, 2006. St. Joseph officials announced that "The Promise Campaign" raised in excess of $6.7 million on a $5 million goal over its three-year span. "The Promise Campaign" kicked off in December 2002 with a base goal of $5 million. In October of 2004, then President/CEO of SJHS Sister Gretchen Kunz, OSF, FACHE, announced the campaign had reached its base goal, and campaign chairs Fain and Janie McDougal announced that Honorary Chair, Mrs. Sue Lee, issued a "challenge commitment" to match every additional gift to the campaign above the base goal, dollar for dollar, up to the maximum of $500,000. This challenge was met! The cornerstone gift for the campaign-$1.5 million- was contributed by Mrs. Sue Lee and her Family in memory of husband/father, Dr. J.C. Lee. Dr. Lee practiced medicine in the Brazos Valley for 23 years and was the Chief Pathologist for St. Joseph Regional Health Center during that time. The J.C. Lee, MD Pavilion of the St. Joseph Regional Cancer Center was named in honor of Dr. Lee in June 2003. Although many groups supported the campaign effort, the Employees of St. Joseph Health System played a pivotal role in the success of "The Promise Campaign," contributing nearly $550,000 of its $6.7 million total. Our sincere thanks and appreciation again to the Campaign Leadership Council, who provided special leadership, wisdom and counsel to the campaign effort. These special friends included: Campaign Chairs, Fain and Janie McDougal, Honorary Chair, Mrs. J. C. (Sue) Lee, and Division Chairs, Millie Crane & Connie Beltrand, Red Cashion, Dr. Michael Cohen, Grant Holt, Msgr. John Malinowski, JJ. and Cherry Ruffino, Dr. James W. Stegall, Robert Upchurch, and at large members, Bonnie & Johnny Lampo, Kay & Britt Rice, Dan Wilkerson, Rev. Msgr. John McCaffrey, Steve Porter, Dave Ward, Sister Gretchen Kunz, FACHE, and John J. Buckley, Jr., FACHE. Our thanks to friends throughout the Brazos Valley and beyond all who helped meet the "challenges" so that the Sisters of St. Francis can continue to meet their "PROMISE" to continue to provide quality health care to all throughout region.
